An alternative name for a foot switch is a pedal switch. This type of switch is an electrical switch for machines, on which the switching process is initiated with the feet by stepping on a pedal. Depending on the pedal position, electrical contacts are actuated. The foot switches for machines are placed on the floor and have different switching functions. They can be equipped with a button function, which triggers a machine function when actuated and switches back off again when released. A button function with a locking mechanism is also possible, using which the switch remains active after the foot pedal is actuated, and is only deactivated when the pedal is actuated again. Industrial foot switches with a pressure point offer an additional switching function. Switches like these have a double switching function. Actuating the foot pedal down to the pressure point switches the first contact, while actuating it past the pressure point switches an additional second contact. When the pedal is released, the contacts are switched back in reverse order.
